About

Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, born in Alexandria, Egypt, to Italian parents, was a writer and poet. He founded the Futurist movement with the publication of the Futurist Manifesto in Le Figaro in 1909. He advocated a break with the past, speed, and modernity. He developed the technique of words-in-freedom, revolutionizing poetry through abolished syntax and expressive typography. His major works include the novel Mafarka the Futurist and the sound poem Zang Tumb Tumb. Aligned with fascism, he was elected to the Royal Academy of Italy in 1929. He died in Bellagio in 1944.
