About
Federico Fellini was an Italian film director born in Rimini in 1920. After starting as a caricaturist and screenwriter, he co-wrote Roberto Rossellini's Roma città aperta (1945). His solo debut, Lo sceicco bianco (1952), preceded his breakthrough with I vitelloni (1953). He won four Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film for La strada (1954), Le notti di Cabiria (1957), 8½ (1963), and Amarcord (1973), as well as the Palme d'Or for La dolce vita (1960). His dreamlike, autobiographical style marked 20th-century cinema. He died in Rome in 1993.
