About
Farah Pahlavi, born Farah Diba on October 14, 1938, in Tehran, was the only child of an army captain. After studying architecture in Paris, she married Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1959. Crowned Empress in 1967, she became the first woman crowned in Iran's modern history. She championed the arts, public health, and education, founding major cultural institutions. Mother of four, she went into exile in 1979. She has published her memoirs and continues her humanitarian work.
