About
Evelyn Waugh, British satirical novelist, was born in London in 1903. After studying at Oxford, he achieved immediate success with his first novel, Decline and Fall (1928). His conversion to Catholicism in 1930 profoundly influenced his work, notably Brideshead Revisited (1945). He also served during World War II, an experience that inspired his Sword of Honour trilogy. Waugh is known for his incisive style and biting portrayal of English society. He died in 1966 in Somerset.
