Erma Bombeck, born Erma Louise Fiste in 1927 in Ohio, was an American columnist and humorist. After graduating from the University of Dayton in 1949, she launched her syndicated humor column 'At Wit's End' in 1965, which appeared in over 900 newspapers and reached 30 million readers weekly. She wrote 13 books, ten of which made the New York Times bestseller list, including 'If Life Is a Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits?' (1978) and 'Motherhood: The Second Oldest Profession' (1983). She was a regular contributor to 'Good Morning America' from 1975 to 1986 and advocated for women's rights. She died in 1996 in San Francisco.
