Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, born on March 28, 1960 in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, is a Franco-Belgian writer. A former student of the École Normale Supérieure and agrégé in philosophy, he achieved theatrical success with Le Visiteur (1993), which won several Molière Awards. Winner of the Grand Prix du Théâtre from the Académie française in 2001 and the Prix Goncourt de la nouvelle in 2010, he was elected to the Royal Academy of Belgium in 2012 and to the Goncourt jury in 2016. His work, translated into 48 languages, explores spirituality and humanism.
