About

Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 in Thornton, Yorkshire, the fifth of six children of Reverend Patrick Brontë. After her mother's death in 1821, she was raised by her aunt at the Haworth parsonage on the edge of the Yorkshire moors. In 1847, she published her only novel, Wuthering Heights, under the masculine pseudonym Ellis Bell. With her sisters Charlotte and Anne, she published a collection of poems in 1846, which included twenty-one of her poems. She wrote over two hundred poems, including 'No Coward Soul Is Mine'. She died of tuberculosis on 19 December 1848, aged 30.
