Elizabeth Ashley, born Elizabeth Ann Cole in 1939 in Florida, is an American actress. She made her Broadway debut in 1959 and won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 1962 for Take Her, She's Mine. She is known for her roles in Barefoot in the Park (1963) and the revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1974). In film, she was nominated for Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for The Carpetbaggers (1964). She received an Emmy nomination for Evening Shade (1991). An interpreter of Tennessee Williams, she also served on the National Council on the Arts and co-founded the American Film Institute. Her autobiography Actress: Postcards from the Road was published in 1978. She was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2024.
