About
Edward Bulwer-Lytton, born on 25 May 1803 in London, was a British novelist, playwright, and politician. After studying at Cambridge, he published his first novel, Pelham, in 1828, which was a great success. He is known for works such as The Last Days of Pompeii (1834) and The Coming Race (1871). He also served as a Whig and then Conservative MP, and as Secretary of State for the Colonies (1858-1859). Created Baron Lytton in 1866, he died on 18 January 1873 in Torquay.
