About

Edi Rama, born July 4, 1964 in Tirana, is an Albanian artist and politician. Son of sculptor Kristaq Rama, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, where he later became a professor of painting. He lived in Paris as an artist from 1994 to 1998. Involved in the student movement that helped dismantle the communist regime, he served as Minister of Culture (1998-2000), then Mayor of Tirana (2000-2011), transforming communist-era buildings with colorful facades. He has led the Socialist Party since 2005 and has been Prime Minister since 2013. In parallel, he pursues an artistic career, exhibiting in international institutions.
