About
Edward Morgan Forster, born in London in 1879, was an English novelist and critic. Educated at Tonbridge and Cambridge, he published four novels between 1905 and 1910, including Howards End. His last novel, A Passage to India (1924), drew on his travels to India. Associated with the Bloomsbury Group, he championed liberal humanism and personal relationships. His novel Maurice, with a homosexual theme, appeared only posthumously. He also wrote Aspects of the Novel (1927) and influential essays. He died in 1970 in Coventry.
