About

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) was an American military officer and statesman. Graduating from West Point in 1915, he commanded Allied forces in Europe during World War II, orchestrating the Normandy landings in 1944. After the war, he served as Army Chief of Staff, president of Columbia University, and first Supreme Commander of NATO. Elected U.S. president in 1952, he served two terms (1953-1961). He ended the Korean War, launched the Interstate Highway System, founded NASA, signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957, and admitted Alaska and Hawaii as states.
