Djaïli Amadou Amal is a Cameroonian novelist and feminist activist, born in 1975 in the Far North region of Cameroon. Of Fulani origin, she grew up in Maroua. Her work, written in French, denounces forced marriage and violence against women. Founder of the NGO Femmes du Sahel in 2012, she is also a UNICEF and UN Women ambassador. Her novel Les Impatientes (2020) was shortlisted for the Prix Goncourt and won the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens. She received an honorary doctorate from Sorbonne Nouvelle University in 2022.
