About
David A. Christensen, born in 1936 in Saskatchewan, grew up on a mixed farm near Pike Lake. He earned a BSA from the University of Saskatchewan (1958), an MSc from McGill University, and a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry (1963). After postdoctoral work at Cornell, he joined the Department of Animal and Poultry Science at the University of Saskatchewan in 1965, where he taught until his retirement in 2003. His research on animal nutrition, forage production, and trace mineral deficiencies had a major impact on agriculture in Western Canada. He helped establish the Saskatchewan Feed Testing Laboratory and developed cereal silage ensiling techniques widely adopted in the region.
