About

Daphne Caruana Galizia, née Vella on 26 August 1964 in Sliema, was a Maltese investigative journalist. Graduating in archaeology from the University of Malta, she became the country's first female columnist in 1988, writing for the Sunday Times of Malta and later for The Malta Independent. In 2008, she launched her blog 'Running Commentary', which became Malta's most-read website. She was known for her revelations on corruption, notably the Panama Papers, which implicated members of the Maltese government. Assassinated by a car bomb on 16 October 2017, her murder sparked widespread outrage and led to reforms. She received several posthumous awards, including the Allard Prize for International Integrity.
