Dany Boon, born Daniel Farid Hamidou on June 26, 1966 in Armentières, northern France, is a French-Algerian actor, comedian, director and producer. Son of an Algerian (Kabyle) father and a French mother, he adopted his stage name from the American TV series Daniel Boone. After gaining fame as a comedian, he achieved phenomenal success in 2008 with the film Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, which he directed, co-wrote and starred in, breaking box office records in France. Nominated for several César Awards, he presided over the 2015 César ceremony and received the first César du Public in 2018 for Raid Dingue. He has also appeared in international productions such as Murder Mystery on Netflix.
