Danielle Steel, born in 1947 in New York, is an American novelist among the most widely read in the world. With over one billion copies sold in 69 countries and 43 languages, she has published more than 210 books, including over 182 novels. Her first novel, Going Home, was published in 1973, and her breakthrough success came with The Promise in 1978. Twenty-two of her novels have been adapted for television. She held a Guinness World Record for a book that remained on the New York Times bestseller list for over 390 consecutive weeks. Decorated with the Order of Arts and Letters (2002) and the Legion of Honour (2014), she is also involved in charitable work, particularly for mental health and aid to the homeless.
