Cloris Leachman, born April 30, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, and died January 27, 2021 in Encinitas, California, was a prolific American actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Last Picture Show (1971) and eight Primetime Emmy Awards, a record at the time. She is known for her roles in Phyllis, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Young Frankenstein, Malcolm in the Middle, and Raising Hope. Trained at the Actors Studio, she was also crowned Miss Chicago 1946. An advocate for vegetarianism and animal rights, she published her autobiography in 2009.
