Claude Rich, full name Claude Robert Rich, was a French actor born on February 8, 1929 in Strasbourg and died on July 20, 2017 in Orgeval. Trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique, he made his film debut in 1955 in René Clair's Les Grandes Manœuvres. He achieved fame in 1963 with Les Tontons flingueurs. Over a career spanning nearly seven decades, he worked with Jean Renoir, François Truffaut, Alain Resnais, and Claude Chabrol. He won the César Award for Best Actor in 1993 for his portrayal of Talleyrand in Le Souper, and received an Honorary César in 2002. Also a stage actor, he was a member of the Comédie-Française and author of the play Un habit pour l'hiver.
