About

Clarice Lispector was born in Ukraine to a Jewish family and emigrated to Brazil as a child. She grew up in Recife and then Rio de Janeiro, where she studied law. Her debut novel, Near to the Wild Heart (1943), revolutionized Brazilian literature. Married to a diplomat, she lived in Europe and the United States before returning permanently to Rio in 1959. Her work, marked by deep introspection, includes novels such as The Passion According to G.H. and The Hour of the Star, as well as short stories and chronicles. She is considered one of Brazil's greatest writers.
