About

Chinua Achebe is a major Nigerian writer, often regarded as the father of modern African literature. Born in Ogidi, he studied at University College, Ibadan, where he switched from medicine to English literature. His first novel, Things Fall Apart (1958), achieved worldwide success and has been translated into more than 50 languages. He later published No Longer at Ease, Arrow of God, A Man of the People, and Anthills of the Savannah. He was also a poet, essayist, and professor, teaching at Bard College and Brown University. He received numerous awards, including the Man Booker International Prize in 2007. He was involved in the Biafran cause and criticized colonialism, notably in his essay on Conrad. He died in Boston in 2013.
