About
Cecilia Böhl de Faber, known under the pseudonym Fernán Caballero, was a Spanish writer born in Switzerland and raised in Germany before settling in Andalusia. Her novel *La Gaviota* (1849) marked the beginning of realism in Spain and brought her international fame. She depicted Andalusian customs and folklore, defending traditional Catholic and monarchist values. Married three times and childless, she died in Seville in 1877.
