Buzz Aldrin, born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. on January 20, 1930, in New Jersey, is an American fighter pilot and astronaut. A graduate of West Point, he served in the Korean War before earning a doctorate in astronautics from MIT. Selected by NASA in 1963, he participated in the Gemini 12 mission and was the lunar module pilot for Apollo 11. On July 20, 1969, he became the second person to walk on the Moon. After his NASA career, he wrote several books and received numerous honors.
