André Robert Raimbourg, known as Bourvil, was a French actor and singer born on July 27, 1917 in Prétot-Vicquemare and died on September 23, 1970 in Paris. Orphaned by his father, he grew up in the village of Bourville, from which he took his stage name. He began as a singer and music-hall performer before becoming known on radio. In 1946, he achieved success with the comic song 'Les Crayons' and made his film debut. He won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival in 1956 for La Traversée de Paris. He formed a legendary duo with Louis de Funès in Le Corniaud (1965) and La Grande Vadrouille (1966). He also excelled in dramatic roles, such as in Les Misérables (1958). He died of multiple myeloma at the age of 53.
