About

Bob Hope, born Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham, London, in 1903, emigrated to the United States in 1908 and became a U.S. citizen in 1920. He began in vaudeville, then made his Broadway and film debuts, introducing his signature song 'Thanks for the Memory.' He starred in the 'Road' pictures with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour, hosted the Academy Awards 19 times, and entertained U.S. troops from World War II to the Gulf War. He received numerous honors, including the Congressional Gold Medal, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and an honorary knighthood. He donated his archives to the Library of Congress and died in 2003.
