Björk Guðmundsdóttir, born November 21, 1965, in Reykjavík, is an internationally renowned Icelandic artist. She began her career at age 11 with a self-titled album in 1977, then gained prominence as the lead singer of The Sugarcubes (1986–1992). Her solo career started in 1993 with the album Debut, followed by many others, exploring eclectic styles from electronic to experimental pop. She won the Best Actress award at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival for her role in Dancer in the Dark. In 2010, she received the Polar Music Prize. Her work is marked by a distinctive voice and avant-garde creativity.
