Bette Midler, born December 1, 1945, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is an American singer and actress. She began on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof (1966–1970) before creating her stage persona 'The Divine Miss M' in the early 1970s. Her debut album, The Divine Miss M (1972), won the Grammy for Best New Artist. She was nominated for an Oscar for The Rose (1979) and has won four Golden Globes. Her song 'Wind Beneath My Wings' (1989) earned her a Grammy. She starred in hit comedies such as Beaches (1988) and Hocus Pocus (1993). Committed to philanthropy, she founded the New York Restoration Project in 1995. She received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2021.
