About
Ba Jin, born Li Yaotang, is a major Chinese writer of the 20th century. Born in Chengdu, he studied in France where he wrote his first novel, Destruction (1929). His most famous work, the Torrent Trilogy (Family, Spring, Autumn), criticizes the traditional patriarchal family. Persecuted during the Cultural Revolution, he was rehabilitated in 1977 and chaired the Chinese Writers Association from 1985 until his death. He received numerous international awards and was honored as 'People's Writer' in 2003.
