About
Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1924-2018) was an Indian statesman and a leading figure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as Prime Minister of India three times, including a full term from 1999 to 2004, the first for a non-Congress Prime Minister. He ordered the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, led the country during the Kargil War (1999), and launched major infrastructure projects. A noted poet, he published several collections. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2014.
