About

Artur Lundkvist (1906-1991) was a leading figure in Swedish literary modernism. He debuted with the poetry collection Glöd (1928) and contributed to the groundbreaking anthology Fem Unga (1929). He published around 80 books, including poetry, novels, essays, and travel writing. He co-founded the literary magazine Karavan (1934-1935) and introduced Swedish readers to authors such as T.S. Eliot and William Faulkner. Elected to the Swedish Academy in 1968, he served on its Nobel Committee from 1969 to 1986. He received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1958 and the Golden Wreath of the Struga Poetry Evenings in 1977.
