Arthur Miller, born in New York in 1915, is one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he achieved his first success with 'All My Sons' (1947), followed by 'Death of a Salesman' (1949), which won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award. His play 'The Crucible' (1953), an allegory of McCarthyism, earned him another Tony. Politically engaged, he served as president of PEN International and wrote the screenplay for 'The Misfits' for Marilyn Monroe. He died in 2005, leaving a significant body of work on the American conscience.
