About
Ariane Mnouchkine, born in 1939 in Boulogne-Billancourt, is a French stage director and founder of the Théâtre du Soleil in 1964. Based at the Cartoucherie de Vincennes since 1970, she has left her mark on contemporary theatre through her collective creations and political commitment. She has staged historical frescoes such as 1789 and 1793, a Shakespeare cycle, and collaborated with Hélène Cixous. Her work, often epic and visual, explores themes of exile, memory, and justice. She has received numerous international awards, including the Kyoto Prize in 2019.
