Anne Rice, born Howard Allen Frances O'Brien in New Orleans, was an American novelist renowned for her gothic and supernatural fiction. She achieved worldwide fame with her debut novel, Interview with the Vampire (1976), which revitalized the vampire genre in popular culture. She authored the Vampire Chronicles series, the Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy, as well as historical and erotic novels under pseudonyms. Her work explores faith, mortality, and immortality. After decades of atheism, she returned to the Catholic Church in 1998, then distanced herself from organized Christianity in 2010. She died in 2021, leaving a lasting impact on fantasy literature.
