About
Annelies Marie Frank, known as Anne Frank, was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt am Main. Fleeing the Nazi regime, her family settled in Amsterdam in 1933-1934. During the German occupation, she hid with seven other people in the Secret Annex at 263 Prinsengracht from July 1942 to August 1944. There she kept a diary, a gift for her 13th birthday, which after her death became a major testimony of the Holocaust. Arrested by the Gestapo on August 4, 1944, she was deported to Auschwitz and then to Bergen-Belsen, where she died of typhus in February or March 1945, at the age of 15. Her father, Otto Frank, the only survivor of the group, had the diary published in 1947 under the title 'Het Achterhuis'.
