About
Anna Karina, born Hanne Karin Blarke Bayer in Copenhagen in 1940, was a French-Danish actress, singer, and writer. Arriving in Paris in 1959, she became the icon of the French New Wave and the muse of Jean-Luc Godard, whom she married in 1961. She starred in seven films by Godard, including Vivre sa vie and Pierrot le fou, and won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at Berlin in 1961 for Une femme est une femme. She also worked with Jacques Rivette, Luchino Visconti, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. In 1973, she made her directorial debut with Vivre ensemble and published her first novel. She recorded songs written by Serge Gainsbourg and wrote four novels. She died in Paris in 2019.
