Ani Lorak, born Karolina Myroslavivna Kuiek on September 27, 1978, in Kitsman, Ukrainian SSR, began singing at age 4. At 13, she won the Pervotsvit festival, launching her career. In 1995, she adopted her stage name, derived from reading her first name backwards. She released her debut album in 1996 and became the youngest Honored Artist of Ukraine in 1999. In 2008, she represented Ukraine at Eurovision with 'Shady Lady', finishing second. She also served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador on HIV/AIDS. In 2024, her state awards were revoked due to her continued work in Russia.
