About
Angela Carter, born Angela Olive Stalker, was an English novelist and journalist. She studied English literature at the University of Bristol and published her first novel, Shadow Dance, in 1966. Her work, marked by feminism and magic realism, revisits fairy tales in a famous collection, The Bloody Chamber (1979). Her novels, including Nights at the Circus (1984), earned critical acclaim. She also taught at Brown University and adapted some of her stories for film. She died of cancer in 1992.
