Anaïs Nin, born in 1903 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, was a French-American writer known for her diaries and erotic writings. Daughter of a Cuban composer and a French-Danish singer, she began her diary at age 11, which she kept for sixty years. Settled in Paris in the 1930s, she frequented Henry Miller and avant-garde literary circles. Her major works include 'House of Incest' and the 'Cities of the Interior' cycle. She self-published her early books, then achieved fame in 1966 with the publication of her expurgated diary. She died in 1977 in Los Angeles.
