Amin Maalouf, born on February 25, 1949, in Beirut, is a Franco-Lebanese writer who writes in French. A journalist by training, he directed the daily An-Nahar and later served as editor-in-chief of Jeune Afrique. Settling in France in 1976, he devoted himself to writing, blending history and fiction. He received the Prix Goncourt in 1993 for Le Rocher de Tanios and the Prince of Asturias Award in 2010. Elected to the Académie française in 2011, he became its Perpetual Secretary in 2023.
