About
Amélie Nothomb, born Fabienne Claire Nothomb, is a Belgian novelist born in Japan. The daughter of a diplomat, she spent her childhood in Asia and studied Romance philology in Brussels. She published her first novel, Hygiène de l'assassin, in 1992, and has since published a book a year with Albin Michel. Winner of numerous prizes, including the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française for Stupeur et tremblements (1999) and the Prix Renaudot for Premier sang (2021), she was elected to the Royal Academy of French Language and Literature of Belgium in 2015.
