Alice Schwarzer, born December 3, 1942 in Wuppertal-Elberfeld, is a central figure of German feminism. After studying in Paris, she joined the Women's Liberation Movement and in 1971 organized the 'Wir haben abgetrieben!' campaign in Stern magazine, where 374 women publicly confessed to having abortions, igniting the modern German women's movement. In 1975, her book 'Der kleine Unterschied und seine großen Folgen' became an international bestseller. Founder and editor-in-chief of EMMA magazine since 1977, she also established the feminist archive FrauenMediaTurm in Cologne. She has received numerous honors, including the French Legion of Honour and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
