About

Alfred de Musset, born in Paris in 1810, was a French Romantic writer. A precocious poet, he published his first collection, Contes d'Espagne et d'Italie, at nineteen. As a playwright, he wrote works such as Lorenzaccio and On ne badine pas avec l'amour, often blending irony and melancholy. His autobiographical novel, La Confession d'un enfant du siècle, draws on his tumultuous affair with George Sand. Elected to the Académie française in 1852, he died in Paris in 1857.
