About
Alex Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario, in 1940. After studying philosophy at the University of Ottawa, he began his career at CBC in 1961, hosting shows like Reach for the Top. In 1984, he became the host of the game show Jeopardy!, which he presented until his death in 2020, setting a Guinness record for the most episodes of a single game show hosted by the same person. He won seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host and received a Peabody Award in 2011. A naturalized U.S. citizen in 1998, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada in 2017. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2020.
