Alain Finkielkraut, born June 30, 1949 in Paris, is a French philosopher, writer and essayist. Son of a survivor of deportation, he studied at the École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud. He taught at the École polytechnique from 1989 to 2014 and has hosted the program Répliques on France Culture since 1985. Elected to the Académie française in 2014, he is the author of numerous essays on modernity, identity and memory.
