Alain de Benoist, born December 11, 1943, in Saint-Symphorien (Indre-et-Loire), is a French philosopher, journalist, and political writer. He studied law, philosophy, sociology, and the history of religions at the Sorbonne. In 1968, he founded GRECE, a think tank at the origin of the Nouvelle Droite (New Right). Director of the journal Nouvelle École, he received the Grand Prix de l'Essai from the Académie française in 1978 for Vu de droite. A critic of liberalism, globalization, and Christian monotheism, he developed the concept of ethnopluralism and identifies as neo-pagan. A prolific author, he has published numerous essays.
