About
Alain Badiou (born 1937 in Rabat) is a major French philosopher, also a novelist and playwright. A former student of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS), he taught at Paris VIII University from 1969 to 1999, then at ENS. His central work, Being and Event (1988), develops a philosophy of the event grounded in mathematics. Politically engaged, he was a Maoist and co-founder of the Organization Politique. He is known for his defense of the communist hypothesis and his critique of parliamentary democracy.
