Albert Arnold Gore Jr., born March 31, 1948, in Washington, D.C., is an American politician and environmentalist. Son of Senator Albert Gore Sr., he graduated from Harvard in 1969 and served as a military journalist in Vietnam. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976 and to the Senate in 1984. He became the 45th Vice President of the United States under Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. As the Democratic nominee in the 2000 presidential election, he won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College. Author of 'Earth in the Balance' and 'An Inconvenient Truth', he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his work on climate change.
