About
Abolhassan Bani Sadr (1933-2021) was a key figure of the Iranian Revolution. Born in Hamadan, he studied theology, economics, and sociology in Tehran, then earned a doctorate at the Sorbonne. Exiled in France after imprisonment for opposing the Shah, he became an adviser to Ayatollah Khomeini and accompanied him on his return to Iran in 1979. He held ministerial posts before being elected the first president of the Islamic Republic in January 1980. Impeached in 1981, he went into exile in France, where he campaigned against the Iranian regime and wrote several books.
