Dame Antonia Susan Byatt, née Drabble, was a British novelist and critic. Sister of novelist Margaret Drabble, she studied at Cambridge, Bryn Mawr, and Oxford, then taught at University College London before becoming a full-time writer. Her novel Possession won the Booker Prize in 1990. She is known for the Frederica Quartet, her short fiction, and critical essays. Appointed CBE in 1990 and DBE in 1999, she received the Erasmus Prize in 2016 and the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award in 2018.
